PAYMENT METHODS AT THE CAR WASH

What Methods of Payment do You Currently Accept at Your Car Wash?

In the beginning, car washes accepted only quarters. Acceptors were the mechanical type where you put a coin in the slot and turned the knob to accept the quarter. Later on, slide types were used. Customers were able to put two coins in at once when the price went up to fifty cents. This went on for quite some time and then long drop mechanical acceptors came into use. Some washes put two acceptors in their boxes and accepted tokens as well. Eventually, along came the Loonie and after that the SlugBuster which allowed us to take two different coins in one acceptor. Some people went to tokens. When the Mint released the Toonie, or if you prefer Twonie, the multi-coin acceptor appeared. Now we could accept up to six different coins. This was reduced somewhat by the fact the Mint had different configurations of the coins so we had to use multiple spots to program each coin. Along came the 12 selection acceptor and we could program whatever we wanted. Life is good.Technology advanced and with it came credit and debit cards, and unique wash cards. Now we're seeing phone payments; ApplePay, Samsung Pay, Android applications, bank apps, and more. How do we use them? Which do we accept and how do we manage them. Do we count up or down? What is the starting price? These are all questions car wash owners and operators are struggling with. What is your opinion of this emerging technology and what, if anything have you decided on? PELCO would like to hear from you, both with what you've done about it now and what you would like to do about it. If you would like more information on how you can go about integrating any or all of this on your car wash, please contact PELCO and we would be pleased to assist in your efforts to make it easier for your customers to use your car wash.
